Diana Corvelle

This set of four gouache miniature paintings, titled "can you see yourself," depicts four white women who gained notoriety for calling 911 to report black people doing everyday things, such as a child setting up a beverage stand in their neighborhood. The portraits are painted from the film stills of the viral videos of these calls, and are set in vintage compact mirrors hand-etched with text. The text directly appeals to an intended audience of fellow white women to examine themselves within the larger problem of racism.
