About the Exhibition
Wassily Kandinsky, one of abstract painting’s arbiters, had synesthesia for sound and color resulting in his dynamic painted compositions. “Color directly influences the soul,” he said, “The artist is the hand that plays.”
Sound & Color, an art exhibition mounted by Sugarlift in partnership with High Line Nine and Steinway, pairs contemporary abstract painters with a concerto, symphony, nocturne, jazz composition or even pop song of their choosing. Each artists’ piano accompaniment will be played live by Steinway musicians in-gallery on select nights. Our painters’ playlists will also be programmed into Steinway’s Spirio that will play throughout the exhibition.
Our opening reception was held on Thursday, October 15th at 508 W 28th Street and included a live performance by Gustavo Casenave, Latin-Grammy winning composer and pianist and husband to painter Vicky Barranguet.
Artists: Christopher Dunlap, Evan Venegas, Dana James, Josh Jefferson, Robert Szot, Svetlana Rabey, Vicky Barranguet.
