WORKS IN / Bushwick, Brooklyn
OCCUPATION / Co-founder and COO at Sugarlift
ON THE CLOCK / Bike to the office in 20 minutes, or hop on the B43 with reading in tow. I'm usually in early, so I'll turn on some music and make a cup of tea. Then it's an action-packed day filled with managing the operations, finances and web presence of our gallery.
YOUR ART WEEKEND / "Zarina: Paper Like Skin", a show that the Guggenheim had up in the first half of 2013, is a personal favorite of mine. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of paper as a medium. At that point, works on paper became my favorite types of works, especially because of their deep connection to the written word. The Zarina retrospective offered a rich supply of philosophical and literary questions. The experience was an art weekend at its best, because, come Monday, I saw and interacted with the world a little bit differently.
ALBUM / The Joshua Tree, U2
FILM / Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, written and directed by Tom Stoppard
ARTIST / Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes -- known as Goya. I'm partial to the terrifying printmaking, but it's his paintings that make Goya my favorite artist.
BOOK / The Sun Also Rises, Ernest Hemingway
EATS / Fiat Cafe, on Mott Street
LATEST PURCHASE / My Freitag backpack (pictured above), which you'll undoubtedly see me schlepping around. Shortly after I purchased it, I was lucky enough to have Shantell Martin, one of my favorite young artists, draw on it at the Pulse Art Fair.
GUILTY PLEASURE / Overly hi-fi audio gear...Is it worth it? Maybe.
GRADE IN ART CLASS / I took everything too seriously as a kid. Except for art class, so I probably flunked.
36 HOURS / At the crack of dawn, my girlfriend, Victoria, and I pack into the car and drive down the Parkway to the Jersey Shore. We'll stop to pick up the necessary rations at Wawa, then head to the beach. After a day in the sun, we'll pack our things and head to Lavallette to eat at the the Crab's Claw Inn. Then it's back up the Parkway. So, really, it's more like 12 hours.
