Victoria Manganiello & Anastasia Voron

Posted by Bartlomiej Piela /

This week we're catching up with Victoria Manganiello and Anastasia Voron, the women behind No Home Gallery, a traveling gallery that organizes exhibitions and happenings in various living and studio spaces in New York City, including the recent Alex Fogt show at Sugarlift's Bushwick gallery.

LIVES IN /

Victoria Manganiello: East Village

Anastasia Voron: TriBeCa

WORKS IN /

VM: My Apartment.

AV: Upper East Side

OCCUPATION /

Both: Co-founders and co-directors of No Home Gallery.

ON THE CLOCK /

VM: Wake up, yoga, cook, music, weave, read, write, think, browse, eat, learn, weave, talk, listen, cook, think, read, sleep.

AV: Part I: hit snooze for thirty minutes before I make my first cup of tea. Part II: head to work. Be exposed to a lot of special things. Treat myself with great people. Part III: hang out with Victoria where we go to artist studios, hold meetings in cafes or design in the NYU computer lab. Part IV: turn on vinyl player, sit on carpet, and try to surround myself in a mountainous range of new ideas. Part V: Go to sleep.

YOUR ART WEEKEND /

VM: Last weekend I traveled to Storm King with a friend for art, picnics, and New England fall weather. It was perfect.

AV: ...consists of searching for inspiration, which I can find being social (gallery openings, lectures, Dia:Beacon) or being not social (reading, writing, scrolling through Tumblr).

ALBUM /

VM: At this moment I am listening to Banks, Warm Water.

AV: Nicolas Jaar's BBC Essential Mix.

FILM /

VM: My Architect

AV: Atonement by Joe Wright

ARTIST /

VM: Julie Mehretu, El Anatsui, Mark Rothko, David Hockney, Nature, My Sister.

AV: Cy Twombly, Mark Rothko, Henri Cartier-Bresson and my mother.

BOOK /

VM: David Mitchell, John Steinbeck, Haruki Murakami, Tom Robbins, David Sedaris, Dave Eggers, Lonely Planet.

AV: Currently reading The Man with the Compound Eyes by Wu Ming-Yi.

EATS /

VM: I could ecstatically eat sushi every day until I die but Italian food has made me who I am.

AV: Depends on the day - either organic everything or pretzels and beer.

LATEST PURCHASE /

VM: "Plenty: Vibrant Vegetable Recipes from London's Ottolenghi”

AV: I recently borrowed and lost one of Victoria's tank tops. My latest purchase was ordering and shipping a new one to her address.

GUILTY PLEASURE /

VM: "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea

AV: To be honest, there is nothing that gives me pleasure that also makes me feel guilt.

GRADE IN ART CLASS /

VM: I received an honors award for textile arts in undergrad. I am in my first semester of Grad School at NYU now, working towards my Masters so we’ll see!

AV: My high school had a dark room with three enlargers, and I would spend my evenings there after class until the janitor would knock on the door to mention the building was closing. In my final year, I received the Scholastic Art Gold Key for Photography Portfolio and was exhibited in the Brooklyn Museum.

36 HOURS /

VM: This summer I spent two weeks driving solo around Iceland. After camping for a week, I did an AirBnB with Asthildur of Selfoss, South Iceland. As it turned out by total coincidence, she is the head weaving professor at the Reykjavik Art School. I love her family, ideas, customs, country, and spirit. I would fly back for another 36 hours with Asthildur anytime.

AV: A lodge getaway to Northern Canada to see the Northern Lights. A Rolleiflex camera. Wine and a deck of cards. Good friends. A dog and copious time.
