ON THE CLOCK
I allow my days to unfold organically. They are filled with painting and great conversations with creatives in the neighbourhood. I need 8-10 hours in my studio to stay sane and happy.
YOUR ART WEEKEND
Weekends are for painting, brunch and friends dropping by the studio to share food and drink. I usually take Thursdays off to see art and an occasional Friday evening to stroll through the Met.
Dire Straits -- Making Movies, Bob Dylan -- Time Out of Mind, U2 -- Achtung Baby. Also The Police, 10,000 Maniacs, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, Tori Amos... I'll stop now.
I enjoy movies that make me laugh (Reservoir Dogs). But I've got to admit that I have a soft spot for the old romantics, particularly Casablanca and Gone With the Wind.
Frida Kahlo, Francesco Clemente, Fay Ku... those are just some of the F's.
My mom was a librarian so we grew up with a love of books. I'm partial to literature that evokes my emotions such as Tennessee Williams plays and works by Yasunari Kawabata. These days I'm reading The Ground Beneath Her Feet by Salman Rushdie.
I enjoy cooking meals that are process oriented like making pizza from scratch or preparing lasagna with all its accompaniments. When out and about I like trying out new restaurants in Brooklyn. Some of my go-to places are Romans, Al Di La, Egg and Traif.
A beautiful jumpsuit by Nadia Tarr. She is my favourite Brooklyn-based designer and a genius!
Romance novels, having my head stroked and consuming large amounts of chocolate... though not at the same time!
GRADE IN ART CLASS
I don't care to brag :)
My last super fun trip was an impromptu extended weekend in Cozumel. I spent four magical days learning how to dive and saw the most enchanting sea turtles! The food was also excellent. I returned with shark trauma, skin pigmentation and jellyfish stings across my belly, but it was well worth it.
Isaac Mann. His work has an endearing quality that I really enjoy!
