Bushwick Open Studios at Sugarlift!
Saturday, June 6th, 12-5pm
Sugarlift is excited to announce its next major event at the gallery in Bushwick, during Bushwick Open Studios weekend on Saturday, June 6th. The exhibition will unfold in two settings -- in the Sugarlift's gallery space indoors and on the outdoor walls across the street at the headquarters of Livestream Public. Its goal is to recognize and celebrate the street artists whose work we see every day in our neighborhood, and its opening coincides with the annual Bushwick Open Studios, the biggest weekend of the Bushwick art calendar.
Sugarlift is proud to be presenting new fine art pieces -- paintings, silkscreen prints, digital prints, photographs, and even an edition of hand-decorated sneakers -- from several artists including Rubin, Elle and London Kaye. With these works, the artists bring their outdoor styles into the gallery, maintaining the urgency and public-facing spirit that animates their work on the streets while exploring traditional and new media in a gallery setting.
The exhibition continues outside, where several artists will paint murals on a hundred-foot wide section of walls at the corner of Morgan Avenue and Stagg Street, at the Livestream Public headquarters (formerly the site of the 3rd Ward). “We are very excited to have many of our favorite street artists painting on the same block at the same time,” says Sugarlift co-founder and President Wright Harvey. “It’s one thing to appreciate the great street art all around us, but it’s a whole new experience seeing these artists in process.”
In addition to the gallery exhibition and the mural painting on the street, Sugarlift is opening their rooftop for a ticketed barbecue sponsored by Arrogant Swine, Sixpoint Brewery and Bruce Cost Ginger Ale, with live music from the Steve Kattermann Band. Art lovers will have the unique experience of watching their favorite artists paint in real time from the roof. The Brooklyn street artist Rubin is also painting a one-of-a-kind work directly onto the roof, so the party will take place on his newest work.
The participating street artists are:
• Chris RWK & Veng
• Eelco van den Berg
• Esteban del Valle
• James Bullough
• London Kaye
• Ramiro Davaro-Comas
The participating photographers are:
• Antonio Jaggie
• Dave Krugman
• Giovanni Elao
• Jose Silva
• Noah Vasquez
The opening party for this exhibition will be held at Sugarlift on the afternoon of Saturday, June 6th, from 12:00 to 5:00pm. The party will include the gallery exhibition and live mural painting, which are free and open to the public. Additionally, there will be a ticketed party on Sugarlift’s rooftop, sponsored by Arrogant Swine, Sixpoint Brewery, Bruce Cost Ginger Ale and Kombrewcha. Tickets for the rooftop party, which will include unlimited food and drinks and music from the Steve Kattermann Band, are available at our Eventbrite page here.
