I paint the women around me, it allows me to explore my own beliefs and experiences reflected through their faces. I can make work about issues that are important to me using the mirror of other women. An issue that continually comes to the surface for me is vulnerability. It is important to me as an artist and in my relationships, to be vulnerable. I want to show that in others and want to champion the idea that vulnerability is strength. This is a portrait of my daughter. She is brightly lit with chin up and undaunted by the task at hand. What is the story here? She is in the spotlight, so to speak, but gloved and ready wearing the reminder of support on her shirt.
