Elevated Subway, Long Island City, 2008
Painting
32" H x 32" W
$12,500
I painted this on location in the summer of 2008, at that time the elevated subway in Long Island City, Queens was pink. I use to drive under it when I would visit my framer in LIC. Every time I saw it, I was fascinated with the pink color and the light and shadows, so one day I stopped to check it out and wound up doing two paintings of the site. NYC is always changing and as with so many things that I paint, this view no longer exists. The elevated subway has been painted green, the parking lot is gone and there's no were to park since the city removed the parking spaces along the street. I was lucky I captured this scene when I did. I've included a installation shot from my solo show a the Hunterdon Art Museum, Clinton, NJ in 2009 that shows the two paintings hanging together.
