I am drawn to malleable materials, their ability to leave marks behind, and materials that become stronger when folded. I draw, paint, cut, and fold these pieces allowing the imperfections and mistakes to remain a significant part of the final piece. The physical process of folding the material allows me to create an imagined space, inspired by the body in movement; a sensuous depiction of the figure, the vulnerability of the unknown and a visual expression of it. To fold and unfold. Paper relief sprayed with Archival Spray Varnish which provides a protective finished layer. The folds of the paper are reinforced with matte medium to give strength and durability to the paper and folds. This figurative relief can be hung on the wall or placed in a shadow box frame.
