Description
Description
The painting is from a series intended to explore the nature of mimicry as ‘lure’ and the role it plays in forming cultural identity. The painting depicts a portrait of a young woman whose parents migrated to America from the Caribbean. Representing her with elements of nature I wanted to use the painting as a form of documentation of her transition to a dominant place/space that resembles her parents home country and the methods used to adapt and fit into a new environment.
