Through the Mist, 2023
Painting
24" H x 30" W

Through the Mist is named after a chapter in the book Hinds' Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard. The painting, as well as this chapter in Hurnard's allegorical novel, symbolizes the trials faced in life – how these can often feel like the process of wandering through a field of mist and fog, unsure of when the sky will clear up again. While these moments can cause great discouragement, I know that it's so important to keep walking through – to ignore the voices of fear or bitterness that might try to derail the path forward. There IS light on the other side of the mist. In this painting, the cool palette represents this foggy scenario; the sporadic marks are the swirling doubts and worries, and the moments of light that shine through the composition give the scene hope – it’s a promise and reminder to press on.
