The Great River Illuminates, 2023
Sculpture
47" H x 30" W x 4" D
SOLD
A single piece of handmade felt consisting of dense ribs of wool and silk merged and bonded through a thread like weaving. Each rib was then hand painted with dye and the color steam set. Finished felt textile sculpted and mounted in walnut frame constructed by the artist. Dimmensions are framed size. I had the great opportunity to participate in a project with the Maryhill Museum that brought together 13 regional artists to each depict (all in fiber) a section of the Columbia River. The works were assembled and exhibited on the grounds of the museum overlooking the river for a month in the summer of 2022. This textile of handmade felt was the focus of my installation, the section of the Columbia from Hat Rock to the Great Bend where it meets the Snake River.
