About the exhibition

On the morning of Saturday, June 18, 2016, the ballpoint artists Dina Brodsky, Guno Park and Nicolas V. Sanchez invited New Yorkers to spend a few hours drawing the High Line with them. More than 350 people registered ahead of time, and over 200 turned up, from kids to seasoned sketchers. Everyone checked in at the Urban Theater at 17th Street and 10th Avenue, picked up free drawing supplies from Sugarlift, neon orange drawing pads included, and settled onto the wooden steps or set off along the park to draw.

For the rest of the morning the steps were packed with people bent over their pads, and a model draped in green posed on the benches above them. At noon the group came back together to hold up their drawings and get feedback from the three hosts. "There is an immense joy to be found in taking the time to truly observe something," Brodsky said in Sugarlift's announcement of the event.

It was the first in a series of drawing events Sugarlift organized with Brodsky, Park and Sanchez. Draw Central Park followed in September, and in between, Park and Sanchez hosted We Drink To Draw, an evening of figure drawing at WeWork NoMad.
