Give Me Some Skin
Apr 22, 2021 to May 22, 2021
Sugarlift at High Line Nine, 508 W 28th St, New York

About the exhibition
Give Me Some Skin brought together 25 contemporary artists to look closely at skin. As Sugarlift's press release put it, "skin is the incredible yet fragile barrier that divides our inner and outer worlds while connecting us to one another." Curated for Sugarlift by the artists Michelle Doll and Jason Patrick Voegele, the show considered how lived experience is woven into the surface of our bodies: scars that tell stories, tattoos that chronicle milestones, stretch marks that speak to resilience, and the loving embrace we long to repeat.
Paintings, drawings and sculpture filled two of Sugarlift's galleries at High Line Nine, each with its own title wall. Hannah Murray's Coquin hung beside the exhibition text, and the works ranged from Bernardo Siciliano's Social Network, three figures sprawled on a floral couch with their phones, and Aleah Chapin's portrait Max to Amy Werntz's Fair, an elderly man in a plaid shirt, and Sullivan Giles's round painting of two tattooed hands, Together. Doll also showed her own work among the 25 artists.
The exhibition opened with a crowded evening reception on April 22, 2021, masks required, and ran through May 22.
