Moirai Triptych - First Fate, 2019
Painting
36" H x 84" W
SOLD
First panel in a 21 ft. long triptych commissioned by the California Medical Association. This series of pieces take their conceptual inspiration from the Greek myth of the 3 Fates, or the Moirai, symbolized as three sisters who weave the thread of life. The first fate represents birth. Here a hand held drop spindle unfurls polychromatic threads that flow into the next panel. The text written specifically for the piece plays on metaphors of weaving in a narrative that explores questions of free will vs predetermination.
