Painting from life is a particular challenge with the light changing moment-to-moment and, in this case, season-to-season. Items collected around the ivy plant and later were moved. I wanted to capture all the change: the light, the transient objects, and growth of the ivy plant. The detail shown here is a section that I re-worked many times to find believable color shifts over the course of 6 months.
