Ellen Starr Lyon

This is a portrait of my daughter on a carefree day. This was the summer before starting high school and as the title suggests, she was anxious and excited about it. I thought the contrast of her teenage body with the childlike illustrations on the plastic float was so poignant. I often paint my children and am fascinated by their strong emotions, emotions we all have but have since learned to hide.
