Four Women, 2020
Works on Paper
37" H x 49" W
Four Women - Folded Females. This series of works are made intuitively using paper, folded to create a portrait of the female, portraying both strength and vulnerability in their various forms. Referencing Greek and Roman Sculpture, and movement and dance. These Folded Females explore questions about accepted ideals of beauty the process of folding and unfolding oneself in response to each moment of the human lived experience. Collage works on paper using paper cutouts to inspire a new composition. Drawing upon the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, the art of finding beauty in the imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. Paper relief sprayed with Archival Spray Varnish which provides a protective finished layer. The folds of the paper are reinforced with matte medium to give strength and durability to the paper and folds.
