Exit Point: Angela Gram and Lydia Baker
Feb 11, 2021 to Mar 11, 2021
Sugarlift at High Line Nine, 508 W 28th St, New York

About the exhibition
In Exit Point, Angela Gram and Lydia Baker used elements from the known, such as the horse, the dancing figure, the cactus or the avian creature, to invite viewers in, teasing them with the familiar before sending them reeling into mythical worlds. Both artists work in representation untethered to realism, and both bring a kind of magic to their mediums, asking viewers to explore their own definitions of, and exit points from, reality.
Gram received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art. She has shown across the United States and internationally with Gallery Poulsen in Copenhagen, and has painted murals for the American Museum of Natural History. Baker received her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art, where she held the 2020-2021 Chubb Fellowship. Her work has been featured in Juxtapoz, and shortly before this show it appeared in the Chubb Insurance Viewing Room through Art Basel Miami Beach.
The exhibition opened on February 11, 2021 with a socially distanced reception in the gallery, where it ran through February 27, and an online viewing room on Artsy that stayed open through March 11.
