Lucas Bononi: The Forest, installation view

About the exhibition

In The Forest, a new body of oil paintings, Lucas Bononi set up a dialogue between people and nature. Paint is slammed onto the surface so that flesh and natural elements marble together, and the features of the earth surface through figuration and abstraction. A gentle river, or perhaps a teasing flame, winds through each subject in his imagined forest.

Bononi (b. 1991, Los Angeles) lives and works in New York. His paintings look at nature through the lens of the modern world, weighing the monotony of city life against nature's unrepeatable beauty, and they move freely between figuration and abstraction, beauty and chaos. The show ranged from Jungle, a canvas nearly eight feet tall, to a grid of nine small panels.

The exhibition opened on February 17, 2022, with a packed reception, the show's title set on a dark accent wall.
