About the exhibition

Volume 004 (Street Art), Sugarlift's fourth collection, set out to recognize and celebrate the street artists whose work colors the neighborhood every day. It opened on Saturday, June 6, 2015, during Bushwick Open Studios, the biggest weekend of the Bushwick art calendar, and it unfolded in two settings: inside the gallery at 200 Morgan Avenue, and on the outdoor walls across the street at the headquarters of Livestream Public, the former site of 3rd Ward.

Inside, the artists brought their outdoor styles into the gallery with paintings, silkscreen prints and digital prints, shown with photographs of the city's graffiti world by Antonio Jaggie, Dave Krugman, Giovanni Elao, Jose Silva and Noah Vasquez. London Kaye, who works in yarn, made an edition of hand-crocheted sneakers. Outside, the street artists painted murals live along a hundred-foot stretch of wall at the corner of Morgan Avenue and Stagg Street. "It's one thing to appreciate the great street art all around us, but it's a whole new experience seeing these artists in process," said Wright Harvey, Sugarlift's co-founder and President.

Rubin415 painted a sky-facing mural directly onto Sugarlift's roof, with more rooftop pieces by London Kaye and Elle, and that afternoon the roof became the dance floor for a ticketed barbecue sponsored by Arrogant Swine, Sixpoint Brewery, Bruce Cost Ginger Ale and Kombrewcha, with live music from the Steve Kattermann Band. More than five hundred people came to the rooftop party, hundreds more visited the gallery and the mural painting on the street, and Livestream Public's drones filmed the party and Rubin's roof from above.
