Plein Air Prospect Park

For its annual artist get-together in 2019, Sugarlift headed outdoors. The invitation promised painting, picnics and parasols, and on the afternoon of September 7, artists and friends spread their blankets across the Nethermead in Prospect Park to paint en plein air alongside watercolor and landscape painters Eileen Murphy, Dina Brodsky, Guno Park, Marcelo Daldoce, Melanie Vote and Luis Colan. Anyone could join by bringing their own materials, and many set up their easels and folding chairs in the shade of the big trees at the edge of the meadow.

The day was sponsored by Legion Paper, which offered free watercolor paper to the first 20 artists to arrive, and Artist & Craftsman Supply. It also marked Sugarlift's fifth birthday: Marcelo Daldoce decorated the birthday cake, brush in hand, and it was cut as the afternoon wound down, a fitting way to say goodbye to summer.
